Body piercing is gaining popularity nowadays and a lot of people are now having it. Before, it is just considered as a part of a tribe ritual; but now, almost anybody can have their body pierced. If you have just had your piercing, then you know that having such can put you at risk for acquiring infection and cleaning it properly would be necessary to prevent such infections.

To ensure that you will not acquire infection on your pierced ear or wherever you’ve had your piercing, here are some tips on how to properly clean body piercings:

Although alcohol is an effective disinfectant, it can cause dryness to your skin. You can use a mild shampoo to wash the pierced area. As for cleaning the wound, it would be best to use saline solutions being sold rather than other wound cleansing solutions. When cleaning, you should not use towels to dry the area but instead, use cotton balls.

While you are letting your wound heal, you have to take a lot of sleep and take vitamin C. Vitamin C is important because it promotes wound healing. This will let your pierced wounds heal faster. This will also help in boosting your immune system in order to fight off infections.

As much as possible, you should keep your wounds dry and do not allow any liquid to contaminate it. Avoid exposing your wound to public pools, saliva, sweat, and liquids because it can cause infection. Keep in mind the liquid promotes bacterial growth.

When you have piercing, make sure that you are using high quality jewelries. There are some cases wherein jewelries can actually cause skin irritations. You should also be familiar with the warning signs of infection. Whenever you feel that there is swelling, pain, redness, and warm feeling on the area you should immediately treat it because these are already signs of infection.
